Dangerous Animals loose in Georgia

ALERT: 17 June 2015

Georgian authorities recommend residents in Tbilisi remain indoors as two lions, one bear and one jaguar remain unaccounted for.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to the breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and against all but essential travel to areas near the Administrative Boundary Lines with Abkhazia and South Ossetia.

Heavy rains and subsequent flooding in Tbilisi overnight on 13 and 14 June led to many wild animals escaping from Tbilisi zoo.

The Georgian authorities advise residents in Tbilisi to stay indoors as two lions, a bear and a jaguar remain unaccounted for. There is travel disruption in Tbilisi as several main roads remain closed.

The British government does not recognise the unilateral declarations of independence made by the de facto authorities in Abkhazia and South Ossetia. There is no UK diplomatic representation available in either location.
