ALERT: A second Earthquake hit Nepal today at 12:35 Nepali time (06:50 GMT) on 12 May. The magnitude was 7.3 and the epicentre was in a rural area close to Mount Everest.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in the UK advises against all but essential travel to Nepal.
Dozens of people have died and over 1,000 are injured after this second major earthquake. There are risks from landslides, avalanches in the mountains and collapsing buildings.
It is recommended that travellers in the region should follow the advice of the local authorities and if you can leave Nepal safely you should do so – if you are in the Lukla area you should leave on a commercial flight.
